My name is Sadie Joy Saller. I am an artist and aspiring children’s book illustrator living in the Chicagoland area. I can barely remember a time when I wasn’t drawing something.
My mom, also an artist, taught me everything she knew as I grew up. She is my biggest inspiration to this day! Even before I learned about Vincent Van Gogh, I saw my mom’s art hanging in the kitchen and that was my goal – to be even somewhat as talented as she was. Over time, scribbles slowly became something more identifiable, and I just kept practicing and practicing and practicing.
Whenever I picked up a children’s book, my eyes always scanned the illustrations first. I struggled to read as a young person, and yet I could still enjoy books. I remember thinking how cool it was to have that influence, that power. Illustrations told me the same story that words did, and sometimes in an even more powerful way that I better understood. Even after I discovered the joy and beauty of words, illustrations had a very special place in my heart.
I currently attend the College of Lake County where I study art and illustration and will be graduating with my Associate of Arts in the Summer of 2026, and then continuing my art education at Lake Forest College.
I do freelance illustration and commissions alongside my pet portrait business. If you are interested in buying any of my work, please look into the art sale page to see what is currently available. Feel free to contact me at [email protected] with any inquiries.
